Srinagar, Feb 21: The countdown for Ramadan 1444 A.H (2023 A.D) has formally begun, as the crescent for Shaban-ul-Muazzam was sighted on Tuesday evening.
Grand Mufti Jammu & Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam told GNS that his office has received several credible witnesses’ across Jammu and Kashmir regarding the sighting of moon.
“There are several credible witnesses’ on record with this office, owing to which the announcement for the observance of Wednesday (February 22, 2023) as first day of Shaban-ul-Muazzam 1444 A.H is hereby being made”, Islam said.
Notably, Shaban-ul-Muazzam, the eighth month in Islamic (lunar) calendar precedes Ramadan – the holiest month during which the Muslims observe mandatory fasting. (GNS)
