Rising Road Accidents in Kashmir
17 killed, 33 injured in road mishaps in Jan 2023
SRINAGAR, Jan 31: At least seventeen people lost their lives in different road mishaps in the first month of 2023 in parts of Kashmir valley.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that around 16 In the first 30 days of the year 2023, 33 people were killed and 33 were injured.
As per the official data, a 40-year-old woman identified as Rafeeqa, wife of Manzoor Ahmed of Alsafa Colony of Sopore was killed on January 01 after she was hit by an unknown vehicle.
On January 02, Mohammad Akram Bhat of Vijhara Lowdara village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora was killed after being hit by a speedy four-wheeler in Greater Kailash area.
On January 03, a man was killed while two others were injured after an Alto 800 vehicle bearing number (JK03K-3465) hit them in the Kokernag area of South Kashmir.
On January 09, a resident of Ganderbal, a driver identified as Khurshid Ahmad Mir (32) son of Ab Hamid Mir of Guzhama died in an accident when a vehicle skidded off the road in Baji Pathri area of Charar-i-Sharief.
On January 10, two persons were killed while two others were injured in a road accident in Hayan area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after an Army vehicle collided with a car.
On January 11, three soldiers including a junior commissioned officer were killed in Machil area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district when they slipped and fell into a deep gorge.
On January 13, Mushtaq Ahmed Wani, a resident of Singhpora was killed after he was hit by a vehicle in Singapore crossing in Baramulla town.
On January 15, at least twelve persons were injured in separate road mishaps in Kupwara and Anantnag.
On January 23, two minors among seven were injured when an Alto car they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in the Tadd area of Karnah north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
On January 25: a driver was killed while two other persons were injured after rolling boulders hit a truck and tanker on National Highway.
The deceased driver was identified as Muneeb Tak resident of Supat Kulgam while the injured were identified as Gopal son of Bayant Lal resident of Peera Ramban and Rajinder Kumar son of Prem Singh resident of Batote Ramban.
On January 30, Imtiyaz Ahmad son of Abdul Qayoum Wani, of Wagan Banihal was seriously injured in the accident and later succumbed at a hospital. He was injured when the tanker that was on its way from Jammu toward Srinagar met with an accident near the Kawbagh area of Ramban.
On January 30, a girl student was killed and many others injured after being hit by a speeding car on the Jammu-Pathankot highway near the Barwal area of Kathua district.
