J&K LG Manoj Sinha refutes claims of opposing Assembly elections
Fazil Mir
Srinagar, Oct 14 (KS) : The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha has denied allegations that he opposes conducting Assembly elections in the region.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu as per News Agency Kashmir Scroll, Sinha clarified that he never made any statements suggesting his opposition to the electoral process. He stressed that he actively participated in elections in the past and intends to continue doing so in the future.
The controversy emerged after the National Conference Vice-President and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, claimed that all political parties and citizens in J&K desire elections, except for the Lieutenant Governor.
Abdullah expressed concern over the prolonged delay in reinstating democracy in the region, highlighting that J&K has been without an elected government for the past five years.
The absence of an elected government has triggered criticism from mainstream political parties like the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party, who argue that the delay undermines democratic representation in the Union Territory. (KS)
