Srinagar, Jan 25 : Following the directives of Ministry of Education (MoE), Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has asked all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of the region to promote voter education and electoral literacy by formalizing curriculum for the greater electoral participation.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the directorate in a communiqué to CEOs of Kashmir region has said that the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) and Department of Higher Education has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on November-02-2023 for promoting voter education and electoral literacy by formalizing them in the curriculum thereby preparing future and new voters for greater electoral participation.
It said that a number of action points emerge from the MoU which primarily relate to the area of school education.
“These include integration of voter education and electoral literacy NCF for classes 6 to 12 for all schools, including Electoral Literacy in the curriculum for adult literacy and basic education,” it reads,
The directorate further said that points that emerged from the MoU includes conducting of special drives, mobilization campaigns, pledge and participatory activities in schools such as mock polls, EVM-VVPAT demonstrations, information about ECI mobile apps, conduct competitions for electoral education and outreach, celebration of National Voters Day, designating a ‘Democracy Room’ in each school for display of electoral awareness material, electoral Literacy Clubs in each school etc.
DSEK in this regard has requested the CEOs to take necessary actions on these points and activities. “The action taken report shall be shared with DSEK accordingly.”—(KNO)
