KU’s Department of Bioresources, organised One day Outreach cum career counselling Program for School students
As part of outreach and extension services started under the patronage of honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan and worthy Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal, today Department of Bioresources under the headship of Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir organized one day outreach cum career counselling session for the school students. This one-day outreach cum career counselling program was organized for school students to develop scientific temper among school students, popularization and globalization of science so that the students develop an innovative mind set. The program was attended by more than 300 students along with 30 staff members from Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Lederwan Trehgam, Kupwara. The entire event was hosted and coordinated by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Head, Department of Bioresourses, University of Kashmir. The Program was inaugurated at Ibne Khaldoon Auditorium Allama Iqbal Library of the University of Kashmir with the welcome of the guests followed by speeches by various teachers. The key note Lecture entitled “Role of Fellowships and Scholarships in academics: The way Forward” was delivered by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, highlighting the need and importance of Fellowships and scholarships in the academics. He acquainted the audience with various fellowship schemes offered by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Minority Affairs of Govt of India besides various schemes offered by Govt of J&K (UT) and its various Department. He discussed about the National Scholarship Portal, DST–INSPIRE Scheme of the Govt of India. He also made students aware about various career opportunities at international and national level besides various competitive exams which students can take to secure admissions in prestigious national and international institutes. Dr Manzoor also discussed about various initiatives started by the University of Kashmir like establishment of Career counselling and Placement cell which is offering coaching to aspirants for various competitive exams, besides organizing Job fairs and campus placements and emphasized that students should take benefit from these initiatives. University of Kashmir is at the forefront of the Skill development programs, vocational courses and Youth empowerment. He also shed light on YUVA Portal soon being launched by Govt of J&K (UT) besides discussed various which Department of Bioresources has partnered with like JK Scientists group, School scientists of Kashmir, Kashmir Education initiative, DST-INSPIRE Science Internship camp etc. for the welfare of the student community.
Principal Boys and Girls Higher Secondary School Lederwan, Trehgam Mr. Nazir Ahmad Najar thanked honorable VC and the Registrar of the university for this opportunity and discussed the role of these outreach programs in academic progression and requested the university administration that such programs should be conducted frequently for the schools. Vice Principal Mr. Farooq Ahmad Pir highlighted the importance of scholarships and fellowships in academics and thanked Dr Manzoor for his student centric approach and key note lecture on Career counselling. Mr. Abdul Rashid Sheikh convener of the program thanked the administration of the university for conducting such outreach programs for the benefit of student community. A special question answer session was conducted at the end of the Program and the program ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Abdul Rashid Malik.
The students took a tour of the University besides visiting Allama Iqbal Library, Department of Zoology (Museum), Naseem Bagh Campus. Dr Manzoor thanked the worthy registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal for his support and cooperation for organizing this outreach program for school students. Dr Manzoor also thanked Prof A A Buhroo, Dr Bilal A Malik, Mr. Reyaz A Patloo for their cooperation and support for this outreach program.
