The Mehjoor Nagar-Rambagh bund, in Srinagar’s uptown, has turned into an unauthorized truck yard, causing severe disruption to traffic flow and sparking frustration among daily commuters.
Residents and motorists urged the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, Srinagar, to intervene and address the issue, which has been creating a lot of problems for commuters.
Heavy motor vehicles, including large trucks, are being parked along the bund, narrowing the road and creating frequent traffic jams. Commuters told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the haphazard parking of these vehicles has not only led to delays but also heightened the risk of road accidents in the area.
“The bund serves as a key alternative route for many motorists. The obstruction caused by the parked trucks undermines its purpose, forcing commuters to take longer routes to reach their destinations. This reckless parking endangers lives. With vehicles parked on both sides, there is little room for two-way traffic, and accidents are bound to happen,” said a local.
They appealed to SSP Traffic Srinagar to take immediate action against the truck drivers and ensure that such parking practices are halted. [KNT]
