Weather Alert: Snowfall Expected in Jammu & Kashmir from 4th January

Srinagar, 2nd January 2025: Jammu and Kashmir will experience a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) will start affecting the region from the evening of 4th January, bringing changes in weather conditions.

The independent weather forecaster (Aadil Maqbool) has issued a forecast predicting moderate to heavy snowfall over the higher reaches of the state between 5th and 6th January. The plains of Kashmir will also experience light to moderate snowfall during this period. In addition, light to moderate rainfall is expected over the plains of Jammu.

According to weather experts, the snowfall is likely to disrupt normal life in higher altitudes, with impacts on transportation and visibility. The plains of Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to witness colder temperatures due to the ongoing weather system.

After 6th January, the weather will remain mostly dry, with clear skies expected from 7th to 11th January. During this period, the region will experience cold and dry conditions, as temperatures are likely to dip, especially in the higher altitudes.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has urged residents to be prepared for the changing weather and to take necessary precautions, particularly in the higher reaches, where snow accumulation could lead to travel disruptions. Authorities have also advised people to stay updated with weather reports and plan their travel accordingly.

Motorists and travelers are encouraged to check road conditions, especially in areas prone to snowfall, and to carry emergency supplies in case of disruptions.*(News Eye)*
