Iltija Mufti to Launch Signature Campaign for Alcohol Ban in J&K
JK News Live

Srinagar, Feb 21, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti has announced a signature campaign advocating for a ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, citing its detrimental effects on families and society.

The campaign is set to be launched on Saturday at the PDP office in Srinagar between 11 AM and 2 PM, aiming to mobilize public support for the proposed legislation.

Taking to social media, Iltija Mufti expressed deep concern over the rising impact of alcohol and drug abuse in the region. “Alcohol and drugs are wrecking lives and families in J&K. We must come together to put an end to it before it’s too late,” she stated, urging people to participate in the campaign.

The initiative comes as PDP legislator Mir Muhammad Fayaz has already submitted a bill in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly seeking a complete ban on alcohol consumption. The bill is expected to be presented during the upcoming Budget session. Additionally, National Conference legislator Ahsan Pardesi has also submitted a similar bill, indicating growing political momentum on the issue.

The call for an alcohol ban has sparked discussions among political and social circles, with supporters emphasizing its potential benefits for public health and social stability. [KNT]
