Ramban, Mar 4, : Zee News has come under fire for spreading misinformation about a Muslim truck driver offering prayers atop his vehicle in the middle of the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. The news channel falsely claimed that the driver had deliberately halted his truck, causing a traffic jam and inconvenience to hundreds of commuters.
The viral video in question, filmed in Ramban district, actually depicted a different reality. According to locals and eyewitnesses, a massive traffic jam had already brought vehicles to a standstill for hours. The driver, instead of idly waiting like others, chose to offer his prayers atop his truck during the enforced halt. However, Zee News, without verifying the facts, presented the incident as a deliberate act of disruption.
The misinformation triggered a wave of outrage among the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who condemned the channel and its anchor for what they called “hate-mongering journalism.” Activists also denounced the report, accusing sections of the media of stoking communal tensions with misleading narratives.
Social media users as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust, slammed Zee News for airing an unverified story, pointing out that responsible journalism requires fact-checking rather than sensationalism. Many demanded an apology from the channel for misrepresenting the situation and targeting a particular community. [KNT]
