Mega Awareness Programme on Intergenerational Bonding Held at Government Polytechnic College Bemina, Srinagar

Srinagar, March 26, 2025: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, in collaboration with Anaugraha Regional Resource & Training Centre on Ageing, Delhi, organized a Mega Awareness Programme on Intergenerational Bonding at Government Polytechnic College Bemina, Srinagar.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and experts from various fields. The programme aimed to highlight the significance of strong family ties, respect for elders, and collective responsibility in fostering intergenerational relationships.

Prominent speakers at the event included Dr. Chintanjeet Kour, Advocate Bisma Khan, Social Reformer Bilal Bhat, Ms. Shabeena, Ms. Masrat Farooq, and Mr. Muneer Sahib. The Principal of ITI Bemina emphasized the vital role of youth in strengthening family bonds and ensuring the well-being of senior citizens.

Dr. Chintanjeet Kour addressed the challenges faced by parents in old age and urged society to take responsibility for their welfare. Advocate Bisma Khan provided valuable legal insights into the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, explaining its impact on families and legal obligations towards elderly care.

During the session, a speaker movingly remarked,
“Our family is like the branches of a tree. We may grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.”
This statement deeply resonated with the audience, reinforcing the importance of family unity.

Advocate Bisma Khan further added,
“To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there.”
Her words emphasized the essence of love, support, and responsibility within families.

The event saw the participation of hundreds of students, who took a pledge to uphold the dignity, honor, and respect of elders in society. The session concluded with a vote of thanks and a feedback session, where participants expressed their commitment to strengthening intergenerational relationships.

The entire programme was hosted by Bilal Bhat, Campaigner, Social Reformer, and Motivational Speaker, who played a key role in engaging the audience and reinforcing the core message of the event.
