Srinagar, Apr 06 A tragic scene was witnessed today on board the Sangaldan-Srinagar train when one of its passengers, Bashir Ahmad Shan, died because of terminal stage cancer during the journey. It happened while Shan had been traveling with his son, Waseem Ahmad Shan, who had witnessed the death of his father.
Bashir Ahmad Shan, a Sangaldan resident and son of Mohd Sultan Shan, was ill for quite some time. It is said that his weak health condition caused his premature death on the moving train.
Shan was also the uncle of SP West Srinagar Imtiyaz Ahmad Rathar, who was said to have been informed of the accident immediately after it occurred.
When the train eventually pulled up at Nowgam’s Srinagar Railway Station, the train respectfully came to a halt while Shan’s body was respectfully removed from it. The formal requirements necessary to satisfy the dignity of the family were carried out by the local police officers and officials of the railways. The body was escorted with respect out of the station, and this did much to articulate the severity of the loss.
The Railway Police contacted their deepest condolences to the grieving family, recognizing the immense grief this tragic loss has inflicted.— (KB)
