Ganderbal 10 April 2025: An anti-tobacco awareness and enforcement drive under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) was conducted today at the Medical Block Ganderbal. The initiative aimed to educate the public about the harmful effects of tobacco use and ensure compliance with COTPA regulations.
The drive was led by Nodal Officers Dr Syed Zahid & Dr Aabid Wani along with their dedicated team Mr Ayaz, Mr. Shakir and Mohd Hussain under the guidance of Block Medical Officer (BMO)
Dr Zahoor Ahmad Tantary. During the drive a total of 14 challans were issued for violations of COTPA from offenders at various locations across Ganderbal like Qamariya Park, Premesis of Govt Degree College and Duderhama.
Health experts emphasized the health risks associated with tobacco consumption including respiratory disorders, cardiovascular diseases & cancer. The team also raise awareness of COTPA provisions including the prohibition of smoking in public places and the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions. The event concluded with a call for collective responsibility to curb tobacco use and promote a healthier society.
