Srinagar, June 10, KNT: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy (IPS), formally felicitated Special Police Officer (SPO) Irfan Hajam for his outstanding act of bravery in rescuing a woman from drowning in the Jhelum River on June 5, 2025.

The commendation ceremony, held at the District Police Headquarters in Srinagar, was also attended by SP Headquarters Umar Shah and DySP Headquarters Ms. Syed Sleet Shah.

SPO Hajam, who serves as the driver to SDPO MR Gunj, demonstrated extraordinary presence of mind and courage when he leapt into the Jhelum near Khankah-e-Moula to save a woman attempting suicide. Without regard for his own safety, he swiftly acted to pull the woman from the river, ultimately bringing her to safety and helping avert a tragic outcome.

Recognizing his selfless act, SSP Srinagar praised Hajam’s prompt response and fearless service, calling it a true reflection of the police force’s commitment to public safety and human dignity.

“Such acts of heroism are a testament to the values we uphold in Srinagar Police. SPO Hajam’s conduct exemplifies what it means to serve the community with integrity, courage, and compassion,” SSP Chakravarthy said.

He also expressed hope that the dedication shown by SPO Hajam would inspire other personnel to carry out their duties with similar resolve and humanity. [KNT]
