Waiting to have adequate traffic personnel staff in the town: SSP Traffic

Srinagar, Dec 03  Sopore town in North Kashmir continues to function without permanent traffic personnel—thus causing a hindrance in controlling the congestion in the area.

Officials said that the town can deploy traffic personnel only after more staff is recruited into the department.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rural Traffic Ravinder Pal Singh told news agency— Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the department is working with limited manpower.

“Once the manpower is increased, we will ensure that there are 8-10 traffic personnel deployed in Sopore town,” he said.

SSP Pal further said the department is dealing with the traffic activities with the help of a flying squad. “As of now, we are getting support and coordination from the district police in streamlining the traffic and addressing violations.”

He said that in absence of traffic cops in Sopore, the roads remain congested with chaotic traffic movement.

Pertinently, the administration recently initiated a decongestant drive, removing roadside encroachments, informal vendor stalls and unauthorized sumo stands to restore the order on main routes.

Officials said the steps were part of a sustained effort to restore traffic discipline and pedestrian safety in the bustling town.

On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir’s Traffic Police wing headed by SSP Rural Kashmir acted tough against the traffic violators in Sopore town that led to seizure of several vehicles and fine was imposed to dozens of violators—
