J&K POLICE AT GANDERBAL SEIZES ILLICIT TIMBER ALONG WITH VEHICLE; SMUGGLER ARRESTED

GANDERBAL: 8TH, JANUARY 2026 In a swift and well-coordinated operation against timber smuggling, J&K Police at Ganderbal successfully seized a consignment of illicit Timber along with a Load Carrier and arrested the Accused involved.

During routine naka checking near Wussan, a police team of PS Ganderbal intercepted a suspicious load carrier vehicle bearing Registration No. JK16B-4440. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found carrying Eight (08) Logs of illegally felled Kail Timber. Sensing police presence, the driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed that the seized timber was being transported without any valid permit or legal documentation, following which the vehicle and timber were seized as per law.

Accordingly, Case FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Forest Act stands registered at PS Ganderbal.

Subsequently, on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, a Special Police Team was constituted. After sustained and strenuous efforts, the accused Irshad Ahmad Dar, S/O Mohd Qasim Dar, R/O Nilahnajwan, Kangan* was apprehended and put behind the bars.

Ganderbal Police reiterates their firm commitment to curbing illegal timber smuggling and protecting the forest wealth of the district and warn that strict action shall be taken against anyone involved in environmental degradation.
