Srinagar, Jan 22, KNT: At least three flights operating to and from Srinagar Airport were cancelled on Thursday following the issuance of a NOTAM at Delhi Airport in view of Republic Day arrangements, officials said.
According to a passenger advisory issued by Srinagar Airport authorities, the cancellations were directly linked to operational restrictions at Delhi Airport, which serves as a major hub for flights connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country. The affected flights included services scheduled on the Srinagar Delhi sector during the day.
Airport officials advised passengers to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport in order to avoid inconvenience. The advisory also expressed regret over the disruption caused to travellers.
The cancellations led to inconvenience for several passengers, many of whom had reached the airport early in the morning amid freezing weather conditions. Some travellers were seen waiting at the terminal while others contacted airline counters for rebooking and further updates.
Officials said such disruptions are common around major national events due to enhanced security measures and temporary airspace restrictions. Passengers were urged to remain in touch with airlines for revised schedules and alternate arrangements.
No further cancellations were immediately announced, though authorities said flight operations would continue to remain subject to air traffic clearance at Delhi Airport during the Republic Day period. [KNT]
