Rajouri, Jan 27, KNT: The Border Roads Organization on Tuesday restored traffic movement on the strategic Rajouri–Kandi–Kotranka road after clearing heavy snowfall along the route, officials said.

According to officials, BRO teams cleared nearly three feet of accumulated snow from a 35-kilometre stretch of the road within 24 hours, enabling the restoration of connectivity to remote and snowbound areas of Rajouri district.

Officials said the road is of strategic importance as it connects several far-flung habitations and serves as a key route during winter months. The swift clearance operation was carried out using heavy machinery despite challenging weather and terrain conditions.

A BRO official said round-the-clock efforts were made to ensure early restoration of the road, keeping in view the movement of essential supplies and emergency services. He said teams remain deployed in the area to prevent fresh blockages in case of continued snowfall.

Locals welcomed the restoration of the road, saying prolonged closure would have severely affected daily life, access to medical facilities and supply of essential commodities.

Officials said BRO continues to monitor other vulnerable road stretches in the region and will undertake further clearance operations as required. [KNT]
