Says transport mobility in Sgr under transitional phase, important to promote public transport
Srinagar, Feb 13 (KNO): Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir on Tuesday stated that some elements do not want the operations of e-buses a success, and that they will be dealt with accordingly.
“There are some elements who do not want the e-bus operations to be a success. But they will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of road safety event here at Amar Singh College in Srinagar, RTO Kashmir Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), while quoting SSP Traffic City, said that around 4 lac vehicles were present in the City, of which 50% of vehicle population was of two wheelers.
He said that transport mobility in Srinagar is in transitional phase and that it was important to promote public transport amidst the growing number of vehicles in the City.
“The total road length of Srinagar city is 850 KM and that is going to remain the same, however, the number of vehicles is increasing. In view of that it is important to promote public transport,” he said.
RTO Kashmir said that after the government took certain initiatives like introduction of e-buses and e-rickshaws, the feedback his department is receiving is positive as people have expressed great relief in commuting.
Speaking about the pendency of driving licenses, RTO Kashmir said that around 1,78,000 pending licenses in J&K most of the backlog has been printed.
“After next 20 days, it should be a very normal affair like it used to be earlier, once printing is done, after 4-5 days, licenses will be delivered at home,” RTO Kashmir stated—(KNO)
