Satirical song ‘Battiye’ on Kashmir power crisis takes internet by storm

Srinagar, Jan 30, KNT: The comic song on erratic electricity in Kashmir has turned out an instant hit. The song that has been penned by renowned lyricist Peer Zahoor has garnered lakhs of hits on social media including Facebook and Youtube.

The song ‘Battiye’ in the ‘Qawali’ version presents the power scenario of Kashmir in a satirical way. The lyricist has not only taken the Power Development Department to the task but has also criticized those people who resort to hook and indulge in power theft.

The music has been given by Rasik Imtiyaz Khan and the singer and composer is Nasir Ahmed while the label is ‘Zeez Originals’. The song has attracted the attention of the common people of Kashmir who have appreciated its nature and style. The song has been recorded at ‘Team Ideation Studio’ at Zero Bridge Srinagar and professionally shot at Alive Academy in the backdrop of candles and lanterns.

Notably, Kashmir, worst power crisis continued this year too.

About the song, the lyricist, Peer Zahoor while thanking all for appreciating the song “Battiye’ told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that: “it is our endeavor to give original numbers on diverse topics without compromising our cultural ethos. In this song, we have highlighted both systematic constraints as well as societal habits. Let us practice and encourage the judicious use of electricity as it belongs to all. In essence, each one of us can contribute to energy conservation,” he said and appreciated the efforts of PDD men for ensuring electricity to people despite constraints.

The director of the song MJ Nasir said that they have tried to convey the message in the most comic way. “Our electric network system is burdened with an additional load on daily basis. Winter season disturbs this Demand-Supply ratio to a higher degree on account of numerous heating gadgets.”

He said the traditional products like ‘lalteen, and ‘shama’, are still in use and due to the non-availability of electricity several terms like ‘katoti’ (curtailment), ‘waer’ (turn) have come into existence.

Overall the song, ‘Battiye’ is a satirical version of the current power scenario in Kashmir Valley. [KNT]
