Srinagar, Feb 16 (KS): Weather is expected to take a turn from Saturday afternoon only with the activity likely to intensify February 18 and remain so till February 20 evening.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of MeT, as per Kashmir Scroll said that the middle and upper reaches across different parts of Kashmir are likely to witness heavy to very snowfall till February 20 evening.

“Weather will largely remain dry till February 17 afternoon, after which the weather activity is to set in which is expected to bring light snowfall in upper areas”, Dr Mukhtar said adding the activity will intensify from February 18 morning and cause snowfall in higher reaches as well as plain areas.

“While the plains will receive snowfall between 6 inches to 1 feet, the middle and upper reaches will receive heavy to very heavy snowfall”, he said.

Vis-à-vis Jammu, Dr. Mukhtar said that the region will see rains and thunderstorms even as there are chances of hailstorms at some isolated places.

“The mountainous reaches in districts including Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Poonch are also expected to see moderate to heavy snowfall during the period”, he said.

“The intensity will lessen from February 21 afternoon and weather will start to see improvement accordingly”, he said adding, “The weather will remain fair and dry upto February 27.” (KS)
