Calm Conditions Expected Thereafter Till March 10th, Says MeT
Srinagar, Feb 29 (KS): Anticipate widespread rain and snow from today evening until March 3rd, with heavy snowfall expected in few places. Following this, tranquil conditions are forecasted until March 10th, as per the Meteorological Department.
An official from MeT told news agency Kashmir Scroll that widespread moderate rain/snow is expected over most places of J&K from 29th evening till 3rd March (Afternoon) with peak activity on 1st night to 2nd night (March). The official said few places may experience heavy to very heavy snow particularly over higher reaches of North Kashmir, Central & South Kashmir & Pirpanjal range of Jammu Division during 1st March (Night) to 2nd March (Late night).
He said plains of Kashmir division may receive moderate rain/ snow while plains of Jammu may receive moderate rain with possibility of heavy rain over Ramban, Udhampur & Reasi during 1st March to 2nd March (Late night).
Few places, he said may experience thunder/lightning/hailstorm accompained by gusty winds (30-40 KMPH) during 1st & 2nd March, adding that, there is no significant weather activity thereafter till 10th March with possibility of light rain/snow at scattered places during night of 6th March to 7th March F/N.
In view of heavy to very heavy snowfall over few middle & higher reaches, he advised travellers/tourists to plan accordingly & follow admin/traffic police advisory. He advised general public over hilly areas, not to venture in Avalanche prone areas & slopy areas. (Follow avalanche warnings & advisories)
He also advised Farmers to withheld irrigation and other farm operations during 1st week of March. There are chances of landslides/mudslides and shooting stones at few places, he said. (KS)
