Amarnath Yatra 2024: Street play at clock tower in Sgr draws crowd
JK News Live

Srinagar, Jul 02  A captivating Nukkad Natak (Street play) was organized at the historic clock tower in Srinagar, attracting a large crowd and highlighting the importance of sustainable practices during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024.

The event was hosted by the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD) of Jammu & Kashmir as part of their initiative to promote a sustainable and zero-landfill yatra.

As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Chief Guest, Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary of HUDD, spoke about the department’s commitment to a clean and zero-landfill pilgrimage.

“Awareness generation among pilgrims is crucial,” Kaur told KNO on the sideline of the event. “We have been dedicated to making the Yatra clean, sanitized, and zero-landfill for a long time. This year, we are focusing on involving the local community, self-help groups, and startups to enhance our efforts,” she added.

Sameer Sharma, an official from HUDD’s appointed agency Soha, echoed these sentiments, saying, “Our department is doing its utmost to ensure a green and clean Amarnath Yatra. The Nukkad Natak at the clock tower is a part of this effort. A team from Indore performed Dhol and Tasha, along with a compelling Nukkad Natak, to raise awareness about the importance of not littering and maintaining cleanliness in Kashmir,” said Sameer—(KNO)
