Srinagar, Jul 16 : The ninth day of Muharram saw a long line of Shikaras in the interiors of Dal Lake carrying mourners to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers at Karbala.
Mourners gathered at Sand Mohalla in Rainawari before embarking across the water traveling from one mohalla to another in traditional Shikaras.
As per the details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the procession saw a large number of people dressed in black, reciting eulogies and beating their chests.
One of the participants, Sahil Ali, said this procession is not just a tradition, it is a reflection of their unwavering faith and resilience.
“Despite the challenges, we come together every year to honour the sacrifices of Karbala. The journey on Shikaras through Dal Lake adds a unique dimension to our mourning, connecting us with our heritage and each other,” he said.
