Aziz while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that he has been interested in art since his childhood but he has started making pieces from animal pieces from the last two to three years.

“I make different things from animal bones including earrings, necklaces, bracelets)l, bone keychains, bone knives, bone decorative pieces, bone pen holder, bone jewellery stand, bone candles, real sheep and bull skulls(maceration), bone artworks while wooden ornaments include earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, bangles, keychains), wooden ring platter , rustic table lamps, night lamps, string artwork, porcupine quill ornaments, porcupine quill dip pens, hunting knives(high carbon steel), candle holder, pyrography (woodburn) etc, he said.

“Whenever I have free time, I start making different items as it gives me peace of mind,” he said, adding that he wants to continue it and establish a unit of bone carving in the coming time.

He said that it was his hobby and stress reliever for and instead of spending time in futile exercises, youth must spend time in such works that are going to benefit them

He said that bone carving is an intricate and delicate work as bone can break once you apply pressure on them and luckily bones as of now are available in Kashmir free of cost.

“I usually collect bones from butcher shops and during trips to forest areas, I also collect bones lying there,” he said, adding that “the process of collecting bones, making art pieces takes time and needs a lot of patience.”

Once art pieces are ready, he takes pictures and uploads them on social media where he has sold these items to people of different countries.

“I usually upload pics of art pieces on Instagram where there is very good response and within time, my pieces are being sold,” he said.

He said that though people are very less interested in such items in Kashmir but i am passionate about it and will continue to do it for peace of mind.

Youth in J&K are getting involved in drugs and other futile exercises but they must engage themselves in such activities that are going to take toll of their lives but make them happy, he said—(KNO)
