Srinagr:- The Kargil community is mourning the loss of Ab Hamid Wani, alias Tanveer, a distinguished educator, poet, historian, writer, and retired government official. Tanveer, 89, of the esteemed Wani family of Lankoor Kargil, passed away at his Shah Anwar colony, Hyderpora Srinagar residence on Saturday.

Tanveer was among the first government officers in Kargil and served as ZEO Kargil after completing his B.A. and B.Ed. in 1964. His remarkable career and contributions to the region’s education and literature have left an indelible mark.

Tanveer authored the acclaimed poetry collection “Ifkar Tanveer” and was working on another book, “Tareekhi Kargil,” which remains unpublished. His literary works are a testament to his love for the region’s history and culture.

Tanveer’s influence extended beyond Kargil, with a vast network of relationships in Gund, Kangan, Ganderbal, Uri, Shopian, Baramullah, Anantnag, Srinagar, and other areas of the Kashmir Valley.

As a relative, you cherished sharing ideas with Tanveer and fondly recall his iconic poem written in Balti: “Az Matayan taa chhanigund, yottiyo gron gronlagun.. Suzire beikanpadun Sozire bei brankpadun..” His legacy will continue to inspire generations.

Tanveer’s Fateh Khawani will be held on November 19th at 10:30 AM in the Ladakhy graveyard, Bemina.
