GANDERBAL: On 14th December 2024, the Department of English GDC Ganderbal organised a Poetry Workshop in the Conference Hall of the College. The event started with a welcome address by the Head of the Department of English Prof. Marifat who while welcoming the guest speaker, the principal, the faculty and the students briefed about the purpose of the workshop which is to chisel the hidden talents of the students and provide a means of expressions to their ideas and emotions. In the inaugural address, the Principal Prof. Fauzia Fatima highlighted the power of poetry which leads to fertile imaginative capability. The guest speaker, Ms. Heena Khan known by her pen name Rumuz-e-Bekhudi was then invited formally to start the Poetry Workshop. Ms. Heena opened the workshop up with the idea of language as the only tool of expression that man was gifted with. Her sessions were divided into two parts:
In first session, she foccused on composition of poetry and its inspiration like Expression٫ Abstract٫ Theme and beauty of poetry. The second session highlighted the technical aspects of poetry like: Poetic Consciousness, Rhyme, Form, Metaphor. Students were given tasks on each technical aspect to work on. The session closed with an exercise of rhyme, form, metaphor usage on the prompts given by the speaker. The event ended with Ms. Heena Khan’s recitation of a Kashmiri poem on “Mother”.The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shazia Qadri and the rapporteur for the event was Ms. Tooba Rasheed.
