Ganderbal, 19 05 2025 ; In a remarkable initiative aimed at fostering student safety, resilience, and civic responsibility, the NSS Units of Government Degree College Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education & Sports, organized a One-Day Awareness Programme on Self and Civil Defence. The initiative was designed to impart essential self-defence techniques and civil preparedness skills, enabling them to respond effectively to emergencies and contribute proactively to community safety.
The event received an inspiring boost with the gracious presence of Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, J&K, and Prof. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, Director Colleges, Kashmir, who happened to be on a visit to the Institution. Deeply impressed by the relevance, planning, and impact of the programme, the dignitaries commended the college administration for its proactive role in cultivating life-saving skills and nurturing a culture of safety, awareness, and community responsibility among students.
The programme began with an eloquent welcome address by Dr. Shabana Aslam, Convener, Sports Committee, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming student participation and the enthusiastic support extended by the faculty. The event was seamlessly anchored by Dr. Ravinder Kour, whose poised moderation ensured coherence, engagement, and smooth progression of the proceedings.
On the occasion, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Fouzia Fatima addressed the gathering with an inspiring message, underscoring the critical relevance of civil defence education in today’s world. She lauded the students for their confident and commendable performance, which reflected their deepening sense of civic responsibility and commitment to personal growth. Prof. Fatima also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, J&K, and Director Colleges, Kashmir for their gracious presence and encouragement, which added immense value to the event.
In her gracious Vote of Thanks, Dr. Jamsheeda Akhter, HOD Urdu and NSS Program officer-1 expressed deep appreciation to the esteemed dignitaries, respected faculty members, dedicated NSS volunteers, and enthusiastic students for their invaluable contributions and wholehearted participation.
