Srinagar, May 24, : Agitated over a prolonged shortage of drinking water, residents of Khawpara B in Karnah on Saturday blocked the main road for several hours, demanding swift intervention from authorities.
The protest drew a large number of men, women, and children who gathered on the road, raising slogans against the Jal Shakti Department and local administration. The demonstrators accused officials of ignoring their repeated pleas for help despite the growing severity of the crisis.
“We have been without clean drinking water for days. It’s like we don’t even exist to the authorities,” said one of the protesting women, highlighting the frustration shared across the community.
With the ongoing heat adding to their woes, residents said the situation has become unbearable. Women, in particular, voiced concerns over the difficulty in managing daily chores in the absence of water.
The protest disrupted traffic movement in the area for hours. Eventually, local administrative officers arrived at the spot and assured the protesters that steps would be taken immediately to resolve the issue.
The residents, however, warned of intensifying their protest if concrete measures are not initiated without further delay.
