Influential Drug Addicts Drive Cars and Bikes With Impunity, Locals Decry Inaction
JK News Live

Srinagar, Aug 31: Growing concerns are being raised across several parts of Kashmir over the menace of drug abuse spilling onto the roads, as influential drug addicts continue to drive cars and bikes recklessly without facing any action from the authorities in Joggers Park Raj Bagh area of Srinagar.

Locals allege that despite repeated complaints, the problem has been ignored, creating a sense of fear and helplessness among common people. “These drug addicts, many of them with backing of influential families, openly drive on the roads in an intoxicated state, endangering their own lives and those of others. But no one dares to stop them,” said a local from downtown Srinagar.

Reports suggest that such individuals often escape routine police checks and are rarely booked under relevant traffic or narcotics laws. Locals say this double standard has emboldened the offenders, who not only flout traffic norms but also use their influence to silence complaints.

Social activists argue that the unchecked movement of drug addicts on roads is not just a traffic issue but a serious public safety threat. “A drug addict behind the wheel is a ticking time bomb. Authorities need to act firmly, otherwise we may see more road accidents and crimes linked to substance abuse,” said an activist.

People have appealed to the administration, police, and traffic authorities to take strict action and ensure that law applies equally, regardless of social or political influence.
