Budgam, Sept 26: President of Anjuman-E-Sharie Shian and founder of the Anjuman Interfaith Dialogue Chapter, Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, strongly condemned the “brutal repression” unleashed against the people of Ladakh.

While addressing Friday sermons at Markazi Imam Bargha Budgam, Aga Syed Hassan said that for the past six years, the people of Ladakh have been demanding statehood with a fully empowered legislature, as well as inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. However, he noted, these demands have been “consistently ignored” by the BJP-led central government.

He pointed out that after years of neglect and failed negotiations, the people of Ladakh launched a peaceful 15-day hunger strike. “Instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue, the government chose to respond with forceful arrests of the hunger strikers, which only intensified protests and unrest,” he said.

Calling upon the Centre to respect democratic values, Aga Syed Hassan urged the Government of India to “immediately cease all repressive measures, engage with the people of Ladakh, and ensure their civil, constitutional, and political rights are honoured and restored without delay.”
