Srinagar, Sept 30: The Department of Education, University of Kashmir, concluded its weeklong national workshop on the theme “From Reflection to Perfection: A Journey of Skill Enhancement for Shaping Effective Teachers” on Tuesday, after seven days of interactive sessions, academic discussions, and practical training exercises.

The programme, organised from September 24 to 30, was inaugurated with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Shafqat Ahmad, a student of the department. The session was moderated by Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Rather. Prof. Aamina Parveen, Head of the Department, delivered the welcome address and formally opened the workshop, followed by a felicitation ceremony for the dignitaries.

Dr. Asia Maqbool, Associate Professor, presented the workshop outline, highlighting its objectives and expected outcomes. In her Inaugural Address, Prof. Tasleema Jan, Dean, School of Education and Behavioural Sciences, underscored the importance of mastering micro-teaching skills to nurture competent teachers.

Presiding over the inaugural session, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nilofer Khan, stressed the need to blend technology with pedagogy and adopt innovative practices to enhance learning outcomes. She commended the department for organising such an academically enriching initiative.

Guest of Honour, Prof. Veena Gupta, Head, Department of Education at NIEPA, delivered the Keynote Address, advocating inclusive practices in classrooms. She emphasised Universal Design of Learning (UDL), specialised pedagogical training, and the integration of advanced technologies such as robotics, evolving classroom models, and multi-tracked teaching.

Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, Dean, College Development Council, in his special remarks, highlighted the gap between academic learning and employment requirements. He called for evaluation systems that promote formative learning rather than rote memorisation.

The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Kounsar Jan, Assistant Professor. Rapporteurs for the session were Dr. Sabahat Aslam and Dr. Arshid Ahmad Najar.

Across the week, participants engaged in deliberations on professional competence, micro-teaching practices, formative evaluation methods, and technology integration into pedagogy. Sessions were facilitated by faculty members, offering both theoretical frameworks and hands-on exposure to effective teaching strategies.

The valedictory session on September 30 began with a felicitation of Prof. Tasleema Jan.

Students of B.Ed 1st Semester shared their feedback, expressing gratitude for the enriching experiences and practical skills acquired through the workshop.

A detailed report of the proceedings, covering sessions from September 24–30, was presented by Dr. Asia Maqbool. In her Presidential Address at the valedictory, Prof. Tasleema Jan emphasised the practical value of such workshops in building confidence, refining pedagogical abilities, and bridging the gap between teacher education and classroom realities.

Certificates were distributed among the speakers and contributors. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Tariq Ahmad Wani, Assistant Professor. The rapporteur for the valedictory session was Dr. Sabahat Aslam.

With the conclusion of the workshop, the Department of Education reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing effective teachers equipped with professional competence, technological adaptability, and innovative teaching practices.
