Srinagar, Jan 24 (KNC): Bringing heavy snowfall spell from Thursday night across Parts of Kashmir Valley and rains in Jammu, the Western Disturbance has moved out of the region now, while weatherman predicting dry wrather for next 48 hours, weatherman said on Saturday morning.

Data shared by independent weather forcaster Faizan Arif Keng told news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that after Friday’s heavy spell, a few more inches of snowfall were recorded during intervening night in parts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora and Kishtwar. Rajouri town also witnessed a snowfall spell, which officials described as a rare occurrence.

They said snowfall was reported from areas that had not experienced snow for nearly a decade, attributing it to a strong cold air mass associated with the Western Disturbance, which caused a sharp dip in temperatures even in relatively warmer regions.

According to weather experts, conditions across Jammu and Kashmir are expected to remain largely dry over the next 48 hours. However, another Western Disturbance is likely to approach from Monday afternoon, January 26, which may bring light to moderate rain and snowfall in parts of the Union Territory.

Meanwhile, a traffic official said that, the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Mughal Road, SSG Road and Sinthan Road continue to remain closed due to adverse weather conditions.

Authorities have advised commuters not to travel on these routes until they are fully restored and declared safe for traffic. People have also been urged not to pay heed to rumours and to check road status only through official Traffic Police channels or Traffic Control Units.

Meanwhile several flights were cancelled at Srinagar airport on Saturday morning.

An airport official said that, Due to a NOTAM in force at Delhi Airport and unfavourable weather conditions at Srinagar, atleast seven flights to and from Srinagar Airport stand cancelled today.

Passengers are advised to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport. We regret the inconvenience caused, official said. (KNC)
