POONCH, JANUARY 25: The District Administration, Poonch today celebrated National Voters’ Day with great enthusiasm, aiming to strengthen democratic values and motivate citizens especially the youth to actively participate in the electoral process.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem, setting a patriotic tone for the event.
The function was graced by the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO).
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included the Assistance Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Deputy DEO, District Information Officer (DIO), Principal, Degree College Poonch, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), along with various sectoral and district-level officers.
The event featured captivating cultural performances by students, reflecting the spirit of democracy, civic duty and national responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, DC Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma highlighted the importance of voting in a democratic system. He urged citizens, particularly first-time and young voters to exercise their franchise responsibly. He emphasized that voting is not only a constitutional right but also a fundamental duty and that greater public participation is essential for a strong democracy.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner along with other officers distributed Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to newly registered voters and presented mementos to participants in recognition of their involvement.
The programme concluded with a pledge to uphold democratic values and a collective resolve to ensure maximum voter participation in future elections.
