DC Srinagar inspects progress of new building complex at Abhinandan Home for Specially Abled Children

Distributes sports kits to students, dining furniture, assured dedicated pick-up van for the School

SRINAGAR APRIL 06: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Monday  visited Abhinandan Home Solina, Kashmir’s oldest institution for specially abled children and inspected the progress of infrastructure upgradation works on Rs 9.90 crore project for construction of new state of the art school building complex  for Specially Abled Children, particularly those grappling with hearing & speaking challenges, being constructed by R&B Department.

During the visit, the DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad,  Deputy Director Employment, Shubi Tabasum, Executive Engineer R&B Khalid Mehmood, Executive Engineer Water Works, Aijaz Rafiq, Executive Engineer KPDCl, Tehsildar South, Sajad Rasool Shah, Deputy CEO, Anjum Raja, Officials from Abhinandan Home and other concerned.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing infrastructure upgradation works for the construction of the School. The project is being developed on a state-of-the-art pattern under the Social Welfare Department and will be the first of its kind in the entire Kashmir Division catering specifically to children grappling with challenges of hearing and speaking.

On the occasion, the DC was informed that the new facility will comprise of Classrooms, Principal’s Office, Staff Room, Indoor Games Court, Gymnasium, Medical Room, Therapy Room,, Washroom Blocks, Computer Lab, Library, Dormitory, and Dining Hall.

While reviewing the progress of the pivotal project, the DC stressed the need for close coordination among all line departments to ensure timely completion of the work. He emphasised the need for added efforts by the executing agency to accelerate the pace of work to complete the project ahead of the scheduled timeline, while maintaining strict adherence to quality standards.

The DC also inspected the Hostel-cum-Kitchen Complex of Abhinandan Home and reviewed the facilities upgraded in the school’s dining hall to enhance comfort and convenience for the students.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner also interacted with the students and staff of Abhinandan Home and assured them of continued support from the District Administration for the overall development of the  Children.

The DC also distributed sports kits, cricket bats, badminton sets and other sports equipment to the children to encourage their active participation in sports and games. He commended the concerned officers for promptly addressing and fulfilling the demands raised by the children of the school during the last visit conducted.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stated that the district Administration Srinagar is exploring possibilities regarding the need to set up higher education academic facilities, introduction of vocational training, skill development programmes and trade diploma courses through ITIs to strengthen educational pathways for specially-abled students.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Deputy Director Employment to organize special camps in collaboration with industry representatives to explore career prospects and placement opportunities for specially abled students of Abhinandan Home, Solina.

He also directed for conducting a special health screening and medical check-up camp for the students at the school to ensure their wellbeing.

Responding to the students demand, the Deputy Commissioner assured the provision of a dedicated van for the school to ease transportation and ensure safe and convenient travelling for all students.
