District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal organized “Anti Polythene Drive and Rally” as part of three days Solid Waste Management Campaign.

Ganderbal: District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal in collaboration with Muncipal Council Ganderbal & District Pollution Officer Ganderbal, today on 23rd of March organized “Anti Polythene Drive & rally” from Main Market Beehama Chowk Ganderbal to Towheed Chowk Ganderbal.

The rally marked the first day of 03 (Three Days) long campaign on solid waste management i.e, from 23rd March to 25th March 2023. The programme was held under the August Supervision of Executive Chairman J&K LSA Mr. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Ms. Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Administrative Judge for District Ganderbal, Member Secretary J&K LSA, Mr. Amit Kumar Gupta and under the guidance of Chairman District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal, Mr.Ritesh Kumar Dubey & Secretary District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal, Ms. Nusrat Ali Hakak.

The goal of the drive cum rally was to create awareness about “Solid Waste Management” & the harmful effects of polythene and to encourage people to switch to more sustainable options. The anti-polythene drive was attended by Secretary DLSA Ganderbal, Officials of DLSA Ganderbal, Mr Altaf Ahmad Lone president of Muncipal Council, Ganderbal, Mr. Bilal Ahmad, Divisional Officer of Pollution Control Committee Ganderbal, Social Activist Mr. Bilal Ahmad, Law Students of Central University Tulmulla Ganderbal and PLVs of DLSA Ganderbal. Besides the rally on its way was joined by some Police Officers & Administrative Officers as well.

As polythene is one of the biggest environmental threats we face today & it takes hundreds of years to decompose, and during that time, it releases toxic chemicals that harm the soil, water, and wildlife. It also contributes to the problem of overflowing landfills and clogged drainage systems, which leads to flooding and other disasters. To combat this issue, DLSA Ganderbal, organized a series of activities in the main market, including awareness campaign, rally, distribution of brochures, posters, jute bags and dustbins etc. among street hawkers and they made aware on spot about its hazardous & to stop its usage. A step has been taken towards promoting eco-friendliness by this programme & the initiative received a positive response from the local market.

This initiative of DLSA Ganderbal, will inspire others to take similar steps towards preserving the environment and reducing plastic waste.

While speaking on the occasion & interacting with the media Secretary DLSA Ganderbal said that the main aim of the programme is to create a behavior change among the people and make them realize that every citizen has a responsibility towards preserving the environment. It is our collective duty to protect the planet we live in for future generations,”. She further added that in order to ensure the success of the Solid Waste Management Campaign & anti-polythene drive, we encourage everyone to join us in this noble cause.

By eliminating the usage of polythene bags, we can significantly reduce the amount of waste generated in our city, and contribute to a healthier and greener environment. Other officers from Municipal Council, District Pollution Officer, Ganderbal, and Social Activist Mr. Bilal Ahmad, were also present & interact with the media to provide in-depth information on their roles and responsibilities.
