Budgam, Mar 30, KNT: The locals of Sonpah hamlet in Central Kashmir’s Budgam District have taken it upon themselves to build an approaching road to link their hamlet with Najafabad Mohalla. Dozens of locals donated their ancestral land thus paving the way for the road.

“We had no other go since the government officials and local leaders had turned a deaf ear to our plea for the road,” said a local resident to news agency Kashmir News Trust adding that over a dozen respectable from the district Budgam donated their land for the purpose.

The name of the link road is designated as Imam Hussain (AS) road and the land owners donated it in the name of Allah and their beloved ones who have left for their heavenly abode.

“It’s a good initiative and we must appreciate these people,” said an elderly villager Master Haji Syed Jaffar.

One of the contributors said that scores of families are living in Sonapah village. “However, there is no proper approaching road leading to Najafabad locality. They have been facing difficulty to reach motorable roads even for day-to-day activities. In addition to it, going to a hospital during an emergency had become a nightmare for the villagers. With this road, vehicles and even tractors can ply at ease,” he said. [KNT]
