Countless royal fans are set to line the procession route for the Coronation of King Charles III today.

Before the King is officially crowned during the ceremony, he’ll make his way to Westminster Abbey from Buckingham Palace along the procession route, along with Queen Camilla, in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach.

This is known as the King’s procession, and there’ll surely be plenty of cheering crowds and flag-waving along the way.

Once the coronation ceremony is complete, Their Majesties will take the same route, reversed, back to the Palace – in a much grander procession called The Coronation Procession.

On their way back, Charles and Camilla will ride in the notoriously heavy, yet impressive, Gold State Coach

Here’s a map of the route for both directions:

It is roughly 1.3 miles long, and shorter than that taken by Queen Elizabeth II for her 1953 coronation.

The procession route also passes several key sights in Central London.

It begins at Buckingham Palace – which is well known as the monarch’s official residence.

The procession will continue along The Mall, turning at Admiralty Arch near Trafalgar Square, before heading down Whitehall, along Parliament Street, and by the east and south sides of Parliament Square

Finally, it reaches Westminster Abbey – which has been the site of coronations for centuries.

The King’s Procession is expected to start at 10.20pm, arriving shortly before the 11am coronation ceremony begins – and will see 1,000 military personnel along the route, as per BBC.

The Coronation Procession is due to begin around 1pm, after the ceremony ends.

Joining the newly-crowned King and Queen on the journey back to the Palace will be Princess Anne.
