Ganderbal 6 Aug: A massive cleanliness drive on Tullamulla River was conducted by youths of Civil Society Tullamulla and was a successful event that raised awareness about the importance of maintaining clean rivers.
The massive cleanliness drive of River Tullamulla held in Tullamulla was an exemplary example of the power of collective action. Over 70 volunteers of Civil Society Tullamulla gathered to clean and restore the river to its former glory. The volunteers collected garbage and removed weeds to improve the quality of the river’s water. The initiative was a huge success and the once polluted river was now clear and teeming with life.
Manzoor Wani, Chairman Civil Society Tullamulla, told media, “It is very unfortunate to see water bodies getting contaminated day-by-day. While we were cleaning the Tullamulla River, we got to see plastic waste materials, carcasses of animals and other materials sedimented in the river. The residents aren’t aware of the repercussions this can bring to their lives if they consume water from these rivers.
Urging authorities to look into the issues pertaining to the conservation of rivers in the District, he said, “We have been listening to Tullamulla River action plan in order to protect the river. So far, we haven’t seen any progress. We urge the authorities to step forward and take adequate steps needed at this point.”
It is pertinent to mention here that this river has a historical importance as on one side it is connected with world famous temple of Shri Mata Khirbhawani and on other side it is connected with renowned Ziyarat of Hazrat Mir Baba Hyder ( RA).
The drive has inspired many to take up similar initiatives in their own localities and serve as an inspiration to protect and restore the environment.
