Srinagar, Jan 25 : Known as ‘pickle king of Kashmir’, Ghulam Qadir Senoo of Nai sadak Habba Kadal offers mouthwatering one-hundred varieties of pickles ranging from mutton and chicken to vegetables and fruits.
Amidst personal loss during the ’90s, Senoo’s unwavering passion and dedication paid off.
Having lost three family members and a transport business, his story reflects not just success, but a testament to resilience and determination.
“I started a small shop 39 years ago and expanded the variety at the shop. Now I offer over 100 pickle varieties. Our pickles find their way to international markets,” Senoo told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). His son Abdul Majeed assists him in the business.
With offerings like kebab and rista pickles, Senoo’s shop has become a culinary hub, drawing admiration from first-time customers like Suhail.
“The strong smell coming out of these bottles is mouthwatering,” he added while looking at the large bottles of pickles, “I want to taste them as soon as possible.”
While explaining the health benefits of pickles, Senoo says his pickles can help to control many ailments. “The garlic pickle is most sought after by the customers. The garlic pickles provide relief to people suffering from heart ailments, high cholesterol and respiratory problems.”
Senoo envisions the global promotion of Kashmiri pickles through online platforms, emphasizing the potential for unemployed youth to embark on similar ventures.
For that, he is willing to offer his services in training aspiring entrepreneurs, seeing it as a contribution to both his family’s heritage and local culture—(KNO)
