World Youth Skills Day: Indian Army In Collaboration With SKUAST Scientists Disbursed Raw Material For Crewel Embroidery To Gurez Valley Sozni And Crewel Artisans Coop Society’
Srinagar, July 16: In a bid to celebrate World Youth Skills Day, Indian Army alongside with scientists from SKUAST distributed raw material for Crewel Embroidery to the budding and recently registered ‘Gurez Valley Sozni And Crewel Artisans Coop Society’ at Indian Army’s Youth Centre, Bagtore and guided the young girls and women.
The event is in continuation with Indian Army’s effort towards self employment of women in which the local women were trained during winters in sozni embroidery before arranging for their registration as coop society. The crewel and sozni artisans are the first ones in the valley to have received formal training in the skill of embroidery and have already received their first commercial order for sozni work.
With formalising sozni skill, the group stands all ready to stand on its own feet as a cooperative commercial venture. The Bn also organised a lecture for students of Govt High School, Tarabal.
The events were organised with an aim of encouraging the youth to learn important skills which will help them to earn livelihood for themselves and be one self reliant.
The programme at school helped motivate the young boys and girls to work towards acquiring skills so that they can actively engage in their community.
A total of 50 boys and girls participated in both the events.
The skill development programme will help generate employment in this remote area and provide source of livelihood to the locals. The programme will compliment the Bn recently completed embroidery project.
