CEO assures action as PWD delays handing over of school building

Srinagar, Jul 08 (KNO): The students in Larno tehsil of Anantnag district are grappling with severe challenges due to inadequate infrastructure in their schools. Despite repeated appeals, the administration has failed to provide essential facilities, exacerbating the situation for these young learners.
One notable example is the Middle school in Cheri, which has struggled with basic infrastructure issues since its establishment. The school, founded as a primary school in 1975 and upgraded to a high school in 2014, lacks sufficient classrooms and facilities, causing significant difficulties for students.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Correspondent, the students at Middle School Cheri report that they have been studying in a building with only three rooms for several years. One room is designated for administrative work, leaving just two rooms to accommodate around 150 students. This overcrowding forces multiple classes to be conducted simultaneously in each room, and this has been severely impacting the quality of education and the learning environment.
When contacted, Chief Education Officer, Javeed Ahmad Kichloo told KNO that the new building for the said school has been under construction and is yet to be handed over by the PW (R&B) department to the school education department.
“We have written many times to the concerned department and we are taking up the matter again. We hope the building will be handed over to us soon so that the said school could function without any difficulty,” CEO said—(KNO)
