Ganderbal 29 Oct 2024 Waqar Manzoor.

Today, Qamaria Model Higher Secondary Educational Institute, Saloora, Ganderbal, celebrated its 21st Annual Day. The Chief Guest for the event was Ms. Nilofar Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir. The guests of honor included Ms. Fozia Fatima, Principal of Government Degree College Ganderbal, and Mr. Wasim Qadri, SSP Ganderbal. Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, IAS and former Chief Secretary, and the Honorable Chairman of the Qamaria Muslim Wakf Trust, presided over the occasion. Distinguished guests included parents, district senior citizens, and sectoral chiefs from various government departments.

In her speech, the Honorable Vice Chancellor says the students’ achievements across a variety of presentations, noting that the dedication of both students and teachers was evident. She highlighted how the school’s success in extracurricular activities reflects its commitment to providing high-quality education.
The Chairman of the Qamaria Muslim Wakf Trust, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, also addressed the gathering. He praised the Managing Committee, Principal, and staff for advancing the school’s mission. In an exclusive interview with Salaam TV, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool recalled the school’s founding purpose: Qamaria Model School was established 50 years ago to offer educational opportunities to children from low-income families who couldn’t afford private school fees. These students were admitted based on merit and received fee concessions. Today, many alumni are serving as doctors, engineers, lawyers, and civil service officers in Kashmir.

Sheikh Ghulam Rasool emphasized that education is a cornerstone of life, encouraging unity rather than division within society. He urged parents to foster intellectual growth in their children, noting that this reflects positively on the entire community.

In recent years, Qamaria Model School has faced challenges with declining student enrollment. However, since the appointment of a new principal, Ms. Nashafah Khan, in 2023, the school has renewed its focus on academics and co-curricular activities. This resurgence has helped position Qamaria among the top schools in Ganderbal. Additionally, the school has made strides in empowering women without gender bias, underscoring its dedication to inclusivity and progress.
