Ganderbal: A gas cylinder leak followed by a low-intensity blast at the Animal Husbandry Department’s Sub Veterinary Center in Gund caused significant panic and injured an Artificial Insemination (AI) worker.
Officials said the incident occurred in Thursday morning when a gas cylinder, likely used for heating, began leaking inside the veterinary center. The accumulating gas ignited, resulting in a minor blast that caused damage to the center’s windows and doors.
Officials said that the Yasir Ahmad Raina, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Raina a resident of Ramwari Gund, was present during the incident. He sustained burn injuries to his face and was immediately rushed to the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Gund for initial treatment.
They said due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura for specialized care.
Block Veterinary Officer Kangan, Dr. Majid Tak, confirmed the incident and stated that the extent of the damage to the veterinary center is being assessed. “All possible assistance will be provided to the injured AI worker,” Dr. Tak said. He is currently stable and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.
