Srinagar, May 17, KNT: Police in Srinagar have stepped up and launched an intensified crackdown on bikers riding without helmets and proper documentation.
Teams of traffic and local police were seen Saturday conducting roadside checks at various points across the city. Motorcyclists were stopped and asked to present valid driving licenses, registration certificates, and to ensure they were wearing helmets, mandatory under traffic laws.
“We are conducting strict verification drives. Apart from enforcing traffic safety, we are also checking vehicle credentials for security reasons,” a senior police officer told KNT.
The enforcement has picked up across areas such as Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Nowhatta, Rajbagh, and Batmaloo, with several bikers fined on the spot for violating helmet and documentation rules. In some cases, two wheelers were also seized for non-compliance.
Police say the drive is not only aimed at promoting road safety but also at maintaining law and order during a sensitive time.
“We urge the public, especially youth, to cooperate and follow safety norms. Wearing a helmet is not just about avoiding fines, it’s about protecting lives,” the officer added. [KNT]
