Ganderbal 22 May 2025: Residents of Kujjar village in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are facing a severe drinking water crisis, alleging negligence by the Jal Shakti Department.
Locals told that they are being forced to consume unfiltered water from a nearby stream, as the regular supply of potable water has been disrupted for days. This is despite the department’s claims of providing clean drinking water to the area.
The worst affected areas include Tabilpora Mohalla and its adjoining localities, where the water shortage has hit daily life hard.
We are suffering due to acute shortage of drinking water and have no option but to fetch contaminated water from a stream located a kilometre away from our homes,” said Mohammad Rafiq Bhat, a local resident.
The villagers have warned of launching an agitation if the authorities fail to restore the drinking water supply at the earliest.
We urge the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to restore the water supply so that we don’t suffer further, the residents appealed.
