Srinagar, July 2025: In a momentous ceremony held in the summer capital Srinagar, the Global Human Rights Trust felicitated distinguished journalist Shahid Jeelani with the prestigious Uttam Bharat Puraskar 2025, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the field of journalism and his unwavering dedication to truth, social justice, and public awareness.

The Uttam Bharat Puraskar is a highly respected national honor awarded annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society through their work. Shahid Jeelani was acknowledged for his fearless reporting, commitment to ethical journalism, and efforts to amplify the voices of the underrepresented.

The award was presented in the presence of several eminent personalities, including Dr. Darakhsha Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, who graced the occasion as a special guest. Other dignitaries from the fields of media, civil society, administration, and human rights also attended the event.

Shahid Jeelani, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to the Global Human Rights Trust and the esteemed jury for the recognition. He dedicated the award to his team, mentors, and the countless voices he has tried to bring to light through his reporting. “This honor strengthens my resolve to continue working for the people and to uphold the true spirit of journalism,” he said.
