Kupwara: In a move to support forest-dependent communities, the Kamraj Forest Division, Zangli Kupwara, has distributed 258 quintals of green fodder under the “Forests for Fodder” initiative over the past week.
The initiative targets fringe forest villages such as Shundi, Lasitiyaal, Maidanpora, Sogam, Saduganga, Natnussa, and Batpora, where livestock heavily rely on forest resources, especially during lean fodder periods.
By supplying green fodder, the Forest Department aims to reduce grazing pressure, promote ecological balance, and strengthen community engagement. Forest officials emphasized that such efforts not only support livelihoods but also foster participatory conservation.
“When communities benefit directly from forest-friendly initiatives, their role in protecting ecosystems becomes more active,” said a forest official.
The initiative has been warmly received by the local population. Kamraj Forest Division remains committed to continuing such people-centric programs as part of its broader goal of sustainable forest management.
