GANDERBAL, AUGUST 06: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ganderbal today organized a vibrant and insightful “Grapes Day” at the Model Vineyard, Kralbagh Lar, with an aim to highlight the immense potential of grape cultivation in the region and promote scientific viticulture practices among the farming community.
The event was held in the presence of DDC Chairperson Ganderbal, Nuzhat Ishfaq, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, as the Guest of Honour.
Also in attendance were Aneet Kanwal Singh Bagee, Deputy General Manager, J&K Bank, officers from SKUAST-K and line departments, and a large number of farmers from across the district.
In his welcome address, Dr. Ajaz Ahmed, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal, acknowledged the Lar belt’s notable contribution to high-quality grape production and stressed the importance of adopting modern viticulture techniques for enhancing both yield and quality.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC Chairperson Nuzhat Ishfaq distributed Kissan Credit Cards (KCCs) among farmers and encouraged them to actively participate in such knowledge-sharing initiatives. She lauded the efforts of KVK Ganderbal in organizing the event and emphasized the significance of empowering farmers through technical exposure and financial inclusion.
Delivering the keynote address, Director Extension, SKUAST-K underscored the importance of sensitizing farmers about various government schemes and capacity-building programs. She emphasized improving grape quality as a crucial step toward strengthening the local agri-economy.
Deputy General Manager, J&K Bank, also interacted with the farmers, highlighting various financial schemes available for the agriculture sector. He appreciated KVK’s efforts in providing a platform for direct engagement with farmers and distributed KCCs to support their financial empowerment.
A technical session was also held during the event, wherein Prof. Urusa Khalil (Fruit Science, SKUAST-K) shared expert guidance on best practices in grape cultivation, aimed at improving productivity and gaining wider market recognition.
