Kangan Patient Denied FNAC Report at SKIMS; Family Alleges Arrogant Behaviour by Staff

“Family appeals to SKIMS Director and Health Secretary for intervention”

Srinagar, 01 Sept 2025: A patient from Kangan suffering from thyroid complications and multiple ailments was allegedly denied her FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) report at SKIMS, with attendants accusing the concerned employee of “arrogant behaviour” and unnecessary obstruction.

The FNAC RT Thyroid Lesion test was conducted on 01-04-2025, and the family was asked to collect the report after ten days.

On Wednesday, the patient’s son visited SKIMS to collect the report but was told by the staff at Room No. 1216 to come back on Thursday or Friday as the report was not yet ready.

On Thursday, the patient’s nephew again visited SKIMS to collect the report. This time, the report was ready, but since he had forgotten to carry the original invoice, he showed a digital copy on WhatsApp. Despite this, and even after obtaining a duplicate invoice from the emergency counter, the employee on duty allegedly refused to hand over the report.

The attendant requested the staff to verify Aadhaar details and even offered to make them speak to the registered mobile number on the prescription, but all pleas were reportedly turned down. “This was not such a big issue that required so much obstruction after all, it was only a test report, not confidential information or sensitive documents that couldn’t be given to a family member,” said the patient’s nephew.

The patient, who is already under oncology and endocrinology consultations at SKIMS, has been left without further treatment, as doctors are awaiting the FNAC report to decide the next course of action. She is currently suffering from sore throat, fever, diabetes, and cold, and had to be shifted to Trauma Hospital Kangan on Thursday.

The family has appealed to SKIMS Director Dr. Ashraf Ganaie and Secretary Health & Medical Education Mr. Abid Rashid to intervene, stressing that such behaviour not only causes harassment to attendants but also delays urgent treatment.
