Srinagar, Jan 22 (KNC): In a deeply emotional appeal, the family of a deceased man from Gandbal Batwara has urged social media users, journalists and the general public to immediately remove photos and videos related to the tragic incident that have been widely shared online.
Speaking to media persons as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the wife of the deceased her voice trembling with grief, said the circulation of such visuals has compounded their suffering. “When just one shoe of my husband was found, I don’t know what stories were created on social media. How am I supposed to feel after seeing all this?” she said, folding her hands in appeal.
She said the continuous spread of images and speculative posts had “deeply hurt the family at a time when they are already shattered.”
Her mother, equally heartbroken, broke down while describing the impact of seeing her son’s body online. “The moment I saw my son’s pictures and videos being uploaded, I collapsed. For Allah’s sake, I beg everyone to remove those photos and videos,” she pleaded.
The grieving family said their only request is for people to respect their pain, privacy and dignity, urging social media users to show compassion rather than turn personal tragedy into public spectacle.
The emotional plea comes nearly two years after the Gandbal Batwara boat tragedy, when a boat capsized in the Jhelum River carrying several passengers, including children. After a prolonged search, the body of one missing victim was recovered last week, bringing heartbreaking closure to the family.
However, soon after the recovery, images and videos of the body went viral on social media platforms, prompting the family’s call for sensitivity and restraint. (KNC)
